2024 – Community and Music June 28, 2024 16:26

To Our Worldwide Percussion Family,

Over the last twelve months, we have witnessed the continued resilience of educators, musicians, and the Arts. It would seem we enter a new phase with its own challenges, however innovation and hope still prevails. Here in Australia, strong economic forces continue to present hurdles, as they do around the world.

I find myself reflecting about the amazing community of creative I have been a part of for more than two decades. Over this time, Rhythmscape has woven itself into the fabric of the global music scene, serving as a conduit for new ideas, sounds and experiences. When I hear a Rhythmscape work being played at a concert - wherever in the world that may be - I am still moved deeply by the reach out team has achieved.

Continuing this theme, I would like to challenge every reader to consider one simple question: how can we continue to foster community through music as we move forward? Throughout history, music has been a powerful force in forming and sustaining communities. It has united people, transcended barriers, and created shared experiences that bring us closer together.

This togetherness does not arise alone. Community requires each of us to approach the other with kindness and humility. We owe it to each other to step into the shoes of each other, perhaps when we feel like this the least.

Therefore, as I did twelve months ago, I wish to acknowledge some of the places where music and community are flourishing – Nashville (TN, USA), Asheville (NC, USA), Boulder (CO, USA), Portland (OR, USA), Austin (TX, USA), Athens (GA, USA), Munich (Germany), Oslo (Norway), Madrid (Spain), Zurich (Switzerland), Dublin (Ireland), and Paris (France).

And lastly, I particularly ask you to keep all the performers, concert organisers, students, teachers, and educators in your hearts. Note by note, bar by bar their work promises community at its most vibrant.

Sincerely and with hope,

2023 – The Hope of Youth June 28, 2024 15:59

To Our Worldwide Percussion Family,

Over the last twelve months, we have witnessed the resilience of educators, musicians, and the Arts. Despite numerous challenges, they continue to prevail. Here in Australia, we have seen many lives touched and countless events and businesses adapt to new realities.

This period has caused me to reflect on my tenure in charge of the extraordinary team at Rhythmscape. Over the last two decades, we have grown from an idea to an export brand known for innovation, quality, and excellence. This has not happened by chance. Countless hours of work, successes, failures, and challenges overcome, have made Rhythmscape into the brand it is today.

Looking back on this journey, I have learnt many things, the most profound being 'nothing great comes easily'.

With this in mind, I'd like every reader to consider one simple question: how can we continue to foster the hope of youth through music as we move forward? For me, I envision a world where young people are inspired and united by music, where the joy of learning and performing brings renewed optimism. As we all know, music teachers play a crucial role in this vision, bringing joy and passion to their students, nurturing their talents, and guiding them through the transformative power of music.

Whilst we can all wish, we must come together and make it happen. We owe it to each student who dares to learn an instrument.

Therefore, as I did twelve months ago, I wish to acknowledge some of the educational institutions where our music and the hope of youth are flourishing – Juilliard School (NY, USA), Berklee College of Music (MA, USA), University of Southern California (CA, USA), Indiana University (IN, USA), University of Miami (FL, USA), New England Conservatory (MA, USA), Royal Academy of Music (London, UK), Conservatoire de Paris (France), Sibelius Academy (Helsinki, Finland), Hochschule für Musik und Tanz (Cologne, Germany), Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London, UK), and University of Music and Performing Arts (Vienna, Austria).

And lastly, I particularly ask you to keep all the students, teachers, and educators in your hearts. They are now reaching even deeper to move us forward.

Sincerely and with hope,

I want to challenge every reader to consider one, simple question: what type of world do we wish inhabit once this is all over?

2021 – Hope Moving Forward January 29, 2021 09:03

It's been an extraordinary twelve months in our percussion industry - there are still great challenges but also great hope.

Rhythmscape’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response March 17, 2020 12:46

To Our Worldwide Percussion Family,

We are all currently facing a challenging situation as a result of COVID-19. Not only are we dealing with the immediate impacts of the global response to the outbreak but find ourselves looking towards an uncertain time of ongoing disruptions.

We know that many of our colleagues are having their daily routines affected and some find themselves dealing with the virus’ impact first-hand. We keep all those affected in our thoughts and prayers.

At Rhythmscape we have always taken seriously our commitment to helping performers, educators and students across the world access the best new percussion music. As a result, we have a business continuity plan that allows our ecommerce store to remain open and secures our supply chain.

Notwithstanding, we do not underestimate the challenge of this moment and will continue to monitor the situation moving forward.

I ask you to keep our heroic doctors, nurses, researchers, and public health experts in your hearts. Their skill and courage will light the way forward.

As you know, Rhythmscape is celebrating its 20th year of producing the best new percussion music. Be assured our team stands alongside every member of the worldwide percussion family as we move through this time together.
