Composer: Daryl Pratt
Instrumentation: Snare Drum, Cymbals & Pedal Bass Drum
Grading: A.M.E.B. 8 | ABS 5 (Advanced)

This is a moving tribute to musicians of New Orleans who were affected by Hurricane Katrina when it struck the south east coast of the USA . This dazzling new solo work particularly honours and draws inspiration from the spirit and resilience of New Orleans drummers associated with the second line tradition.

Required for this work: snare drum sticks, soft yarn mallets, brushes (heavy nylon tines), slotted stick or small wooden guiro, paddle castanet (pre-school instrument with clappers mounted on both sides of the handle/sound board - not an 'orchestral' paddle castanet).

This work is a commission for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Snare Drum Award.

The composer has suggested the following optional amendments (.PDF) to the work.
