Rhythmscape Publishing - Celebrating 20 years | 2000 – 2020 January 14, 2020 13:25

This year Rhythmscape celebrates its 20th birthday.

In 2000, the state of percussion music globally, and particularly here in Australia, was dire – limited choice, low quality and no online ordering.

Rhythmscape Publishing was created to fix this problem. What started as an idea on a blank piece of paper is now a global community of educators, performers, players and musicians.

I am proud and humbled when I think about all the new percussion music we have discovered, produced and promoted. Rhythmscape led the way to build a dynamic market with a breadth and depth of easily available, quality repertoire. So much has changed.

Festivals, competitions, concert halls and performance spaces now ring resoundingly to the sounds of exciting new music for percussion in all its myriad forms.

To all those who have come on this journey with me over the last two decades, to those who took a leap of faith and supported my idea written on that blank sheet of paper, I say thank you.

Together we have improved the state of our percussive industry. We’ve created performances that have moved rapt audiences; inspired students to take brave risks on stages around the world and connected countless people through music. Most importantly, we have done what many said couldn’t be done, and in doing so have opened the door for others to follow in our footsteps.

Sincerely and with gratitude,

Gordon Hughes
